Last chance to sign up for MCA funspiel; volunteers needed!
Cedar Rapids Curling is hosting a casual, fun bonspiel with our fellow MCA arena clubs, St. Louis and Des Moines, May 13-14 in Cedar Rapids. This casual spiel will be a great way for new and experienced curlers to meet and play each other, and there is still room for a few more people!
The fee will be $35/curler. Participants are responsible for food and beverage costs. Pins will be awarded to the winners and runners-up of the four events. You can sign up as an individual or as a team.
Additionally, we will need volunteers for this event, as well as the MCA Arena Nationals Playdowns, which will be held at the same time. No experience necessary!!!

We will host a virtual planning meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 23. Sign up online and a Zoom link will be sent out 24 hours before the event.
This will be your time to share your ideas about what our schedule looks like—or just listen in on the planning process.

CedarSpiel is BACK for the first time since 2019! It will be August 11-13, 2023. We hope to see you there. There is a lot of fun in the works and more information will be on its way. Be sure to register below to save your spot!
Cost is $400 per team. Registration deadline is July 31, 2023.

We also will be looking for volunteers throughout the weekend. Stay tuned for how to sign up to help with ice prep, merchandise and raffle sales, and dinner prep/serving.
Share curling at CR Pride and CR Farmers Market
We are excited to announce that Cedar Rapids Curling will have booths at two Cedar Rapids events this summer: CR Pride on July 8 and Cedar Rapids Farmers Market on Aug. 5.
We will have a tent with a table full of curling items for people to check out, balloons for the kids (and adults), and hopefully our street curling set so people can "throw a stone."
We need volunteers--there will be multiple shifts for each event. It will be a great time to hang out together and share our sport with our community outside the ice!
Get ready to vote for your Board of Directors
Six two-year positions on the Board of Directors are up for election this summer by the general membership. The Board meets once a month and establishes policies, appoints officers and committee chairs, and sets goals to accomplish Cedar Rapids Curling’s mission.
Joining the board is a great opportunity to serve and help guide the club through the exciting growth that we expect to experience in the next few years. Significant curling skill or experience is not required, and having a few newer members actually is desirable.

Members will receive an email with a link to vote for board members on June 25. Voting is anonymous and will remain open until July 9. New members will be announced at the July 16 picnic.

We have much to celebrate! Our Member Meeting & Picnic is tentatively scheduled noon Sunday, July 16, at at Hawks Ridge Park in Fairfax (390 W. Prairie Dr., Fairfax, IA, 52228).
Bring your family and significant others! Cedar Rapids Curling will provide the hamburgers, brats, buns, and utensils. We ask that you bring an appetizer, side, dish, or dessert to share. After eating and catching up, we will have a short member meeting to share club status and plans and announce the new Board of Directors.

Two Cedar Rapids Curling teams competed at the MCA 5 & Under at Exmoor Curling in Chicago. Congrats to Dan, Greg, Beth, and Brianne; and Emily, Dalton, Jennifer, and Jacob!
Four Cedar Rapids Curling members attended a Level I & II USA Curling Officiating Clinic at Exmoor Country Club in Chicago. Thank you Lynn, Beth, Ken, and Phil for helping to grow our sport and make it the wonderful community it is!

Congratulations to Parker, whose team won the 3rd event of the 67th Annual Men’s Last Chance International Bonspiel. There were 100 teams competing!
